This blog is about fulfilling the dream of our kids to see real tanks in person and not just in snaps and videos. Little we knew that Asia’s biggest Cavalry Tank Museum is in Ahmednagar, just 2.5hrs drive from Pune.
We planned our trip for the weekend of Holi and left Pune around 8 am. We had our breakfast at Vithal Kamat (around 5 kms before Ranjangaon). Last time we had taken breakfast at Smile Stone Restaurant (around 20 kms before Ahmednagar).
We covered the distance of 125 kms in 3 hrs with a break of 30 mts and reached at the Tank Museum around 11am.
Cavalry Tank Museum was established by the Armored Corps Centre and School, Ahmednagar in February 1994. It is the only museum of its kind in Asia and houses about 50 exhibits of vintage armored fighting vehicles.
The museum is open from 9 am to 6pm. The whole area is well maintained by the armed forces and after buying entry tickets we had a look at the notice board and layout of the whole area.
It took us around 2 hours to cover all the exhibits. For more details of various exhibits, you can refer to following links
On way back, we had our lunch at Hotel Farah Executive, Ahmednagar. The Thali served was good and price reasonable. We were back at Pune by 6 pm.
A one day trip from Pune was totally worth as Kids enjoyed every bit of the trip.
Here are few snaps of the Cavalry Tank Museum to relish our memories. Click on individual image to open a larger image.
